Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of frequently asked questions about the Green Pages. If you have a question that is not answered here, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 01273 766610.

What is the Green Pages?
The Green Pages is a directory of environmentally friendly and ethical organisations in Brighton & Hove, and some of the surrounding areas. Think of it like the Yellow Pages, but green. It is a not-for-profit project run by Brighton Peace and Environment Centre

Where can I get the Green Pages?
At the moment the Green Pages is online only. There are still some of the 2009 edition hard copies kicking around though, so if you want one either pop into our shop on Surrey Street or call us on 01273 766610.

I want to stock the Green Pages in my shop, how can I do that?
The Green Pages is online only at the moment, so there's nothing to stock. You can take some of the old 2009 edition if you like though. Since the book is free, you don't need to do anything special in order to stock it, just send us an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 01273 766610 and we'll get some sent out to you.

I can't find a copy of the Green Pages, will you send me one?
No need - just look it all up on this very website!

Can I be in the Green Pages?
If you run an eco or ethical organisation providing eco or ethical goods or services, and are in our catchment area, then most likely you can be in the Green Pages. Please check our ethical policy for more details or contact us for a chat.

What is your catchment area?
Brighton & Hove, and various little bits around the edges if the particular service cannot be found closer to Brighton & Hove.

I am a complementary or alternative health practitioner, can I be in the Green Pages?
We only accept listings for CAM centres, rather than individual practitioners. We took this decision as there are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of CAM practitioners in Brighton & Hove. To list them all would detract from the main focus of the book, which is environmental and ethical, and there are already several resources for CAM practitioners in the city. Additionally, all our listings are free of charge, and to add this many extra free listings would make the whole project financially unviable.

Can I advertise in the Green Pages?
Yes! The Green Pages is partly funded by advertising, so please support us while promoting your business at the same time. Advertising details are available here or by clicking the advertising button at the top of the page. Our advertisers to have to follow the same ethical policy as our free listers.

I have added my business to the Green Pages but it isn't showing up yet. When will it appear?
When you add your listing, we need to check that it fits with our ethical policy. We also like to check your spelling and that you have written a company description of between 50 - 100 words in the third person. Generally this doesn't take too long and your listing should appear within a week of you posting it. If it takes longer, feel free to get in touch and give us a nag.

Why am I not in the Green Pages?
There are always new businesses appearing and, sadly, old ones disappearing.  If we left you out, it is only because we didn't know about you. The good news is you can simply add your business to the Green Pages here. You'll need to register first, and then you can fill in your details.

Who makes the Green Pages?
The Green Pages is a project of the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre, a charity that aims to educate and inform so we can work towards a fairer, greener world.

Are you part of The Argus?
No, but we understand the confusion. The Green Pages editor is Sarah Lewis-Hammond. Sarah is The Argus's weekly environment columnist and general eco gal about town. She is a freelance journalist and editor who works for many other people as well. We happen to have bagged her for this project.

How green is the Green Pages?
We are as green as we can be. Our offices are run and maintained by Ethical Property, who look after all the green office stuff. We print using Responsible Print from Four Corners Print. We do all the usual stuff: recycling, walking to work, eating organic grub etc. Of course, no one is perfect, but we do our best to do our bit, just like you.

How can I help the Green Pages?
There are many ways you can help out. You could volunteer your time, if you have any, you can tell everyone you know about us, or even donate some money, if you have any spare. Simply go to the home page and donate through PayPal.
